Let’s Catch Up

This post will just catch you up on my first week as a Denverite.  What did I do last week, how was the weather last weekend, blah blah, etc.

So my sister leaves…enter  water works.  All day.   We had spent 5 straight days together and now she was leaving and I was alone in a big city I knew almost nothing about.  I started crying.  And I thought, OH CRAP…is this how it is going to be?   Am I going to be a watery mess for the entirety of my Denver residency…will I be able to pull it together (and I maaaaaay have been a tad hungover)?  The answer…I PULLED IT TOGETHER!!  I think it all set in that day, the reality of what I had been preparing for over the past five months was here, and the person I am the closest with (not to mention almost everyone I know) was no longer a quick drive away.  I wasn’t sad…I was just, overwhelmed.  Or either I had been overwhelmed and this was the sigh of relief, I was here..it was done.  Taking it in. Either way, I have been fine since then.  Smooth sailing…so far.  And it has helped that I am being regularly checked in on by family and friends….cause you all are amazing!  Thank you!  Keep it up (please?)!

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were pretty boring. I didn’t have internet or cable so I was working in the apartment lobby.  I set up shop in the all new Union Station (http://unionstationindenver.com/) for day 1 (Tuesday), but quickly realized that if I had to use the facilities that meant packing up everything in order to go. I figured I would save working in more interesting places for when I was a little more accustomed to working remote.  Note: For those that don’t know, I am still working for my employer out of Richmond, VA who was gracious enough to let me move to Denver while maintaining my position.

Wednesday I took Minnie for a walk in the park near my apartment.  Thursday I took a run around the neighborhood then ventured out to PetSmart.  I had to drive.  I haven’t been driving, almost at all. My location allows me to walk just about anywhere I need to go.  That evening I had frozen yogurt (or really, just a big bowl of toppings) with an acquaintance out in Stapleton and then enjoyed a couple glasses of wine at my local watering hole, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.  Then the weekend was spent in the apartment gym, walking Minnie, wrapping up the unpacking process and getting organized.  I also believe I mentioned, I finally got cable and internet Saturday morning.   While it did snow, it didn’t stick here in the city…THANK GOODNESS!  And it is like they say…the cold is a different kind of cold, in a good way.  But from what I hear the burbs were hit pretty hard.  I was supposed to have dinner and drinks with my friend Kathryn Saturday night, but she was snowed in in Golden.  So, local watering hole to the rescue with wine and a burger.

I headed to bed Sunday evening ready for a brand new week.  My home office (or kitchen table) was all set up for work bright and early the next morning, the apartment was completely unpacked, I had plans for the upcoming week and I was feeling good about my first week in Denver.  Hopefully the second week follows suit.
