Getting Out and About

My week in review.  This week my goal was to get out and about and start getting to know my new city and meeting people.

Monday night I met my friend Kathryn for dinner. Kathryn and I used to work together in Richmond and she moved to Denver about a year and a half ago for school.  This dinner was a reschedule from Saturday when she was snowed in.  During a run last week I ran (ha ha) across a restaurant that looked interesting…and yummy, so we tried it.  Zengo(http://www.richardsandoval.com/zengodenver/)!   It was super yummy and it was great catching up.

Those tacos were AMAZING!!!  The sushi and salad were pretty awesome as well. But I will go back for those tacos again!

Tuesday was pretty lame.

Wednesday, I finally dipped my toes back into the world of CrossFit.  And it was a doozie!  I dropped in at CrossFit Cuspis (http://www.crossfitcuspis.com/) for the 4pm class.  The nice thing about working EST hours is it’s 3pm here when the work day is done (however 7am start isn’t so great).  The workout was a TABATA of sit ups, then a TABATA of push ups (shoot me) and then the WOD – 10 rounds of 3 squat snatches at 55% of 1RM, 150 meter run, 7 candle sticks to burpees and 30 double unders with a 35 minute cap.

This was my first workout in two weeks and my first workout at this altitude.  I thought I was going to die, but guess what….I didn’t die. And I finished, 31 minutes.  The class was small, and I am told most classes are.  The coach was motivating, however his style was new…for me.  Kind of a military type yell in quick bursts.  Cuspis doesn’t charge for drop ins and encourages you to try them out for a week or so before making a decision to make sure they are the right community for you…for free.  Sign me up!  I am going back today for my second workout.  I also plan to go to their Saturday workout to get a better feel for the community.

Thursday I had planned to have dinner with the cousin of a high school friend, T.  We hadn’t met and I was excited to meet her and see some more of the city.  Unfortunately, T was under the weather, but we plan to catch up this weekend at a park event or next week.  So, I reached out to another friend of a friend to see if she wanted to have an impromptu dinner…and she did.  J is the college friend of a friend in Richmond and this would be our first time meeting.

The restaurant I picked just happened to be one of her favorites, and it was in walking distance of my apartment: Blue Sushi Saki Grill (http://bluesushisakegrill.com/).  The food was yummy, I had a sushi roll and a squid salad (PS:  I LOVE squid).  Oddly enough both place I have eaten this week are chains, which is usually a big no no for me.  I really enjoyed meeting J.  She gave me a bunch of great recommendation of places to go this weekend and things to do.  She seems to love food just as much as me!  I hope we keep in touch.

They have a great happy hour so we had met at 5:30.  When I headed out at 7, I decided to have a drink at Terminal Bar in Union Station…people watch.  Then I channeled my mother, purchased an ice cream cone and walked home where a bottle of wine, a redbox and Minnie were waiting for me.

Also to note, I have seen three movies this week that were all pretty great:  The Secret in Their Eyes, Everest, and 33.

Now I think I really have caught you all up to the present.  I am hoping this weekend produces some worthwhile content.  My bestie is coming in town and I am excited to do some exploring…and get her help with decorating.  After which, I will post apartment pics.
