I really appreciate everyone asking about Minnie? She’s doing pretty good. She made the trip like a champ. She was a little off the third travel day, but Katie and I were pretty punchy too so I’ll give Minnie that one.

Once we arrived she was restless, there was no furniture so there was no familiarity. Once it did come, I felt she settled in a bit. It was clear pretty quickly that the complex dog park wasn’t really a fit, especially at night. She is basically blind so without light to create shadows, strange dogs nosing in her butthole was not a welcomed surprise. Well actually that’s day or night. She is getting better with the leash, the collar and walks. And I try to take her to the park or some kind of greenery once a week.
Now that I am home all day I am realizing how much she sleeps. And it’s a lot! I have also had to make some changes to her food. She isn’t eating as well as I’d like. I had begun mixing chicken and sweet potato with her soft food twice daily back in Richmond at the vets recommendation, still with hard food down at all times. Now I am refilling that soft concoction as often as she’ll finish the previous bowl…which is still mostly only twice a day. And I have switched it up with ham, turkey and bacon as well. Sometimes I just give her a bowl of bacon, ham, turkey and chicken….don’t judge me.
This week she has started having accidents. She can’t seem to hold her bladder for longer than 2 to 3 hours. She had been pretty consistent at 4 hours for several months now. I reached out to our Richmond vet and he inquired about her water intake. I measured the next day and she was up to 2 cups a day. Apparently that is way more than she should be drinking. His advice was to have her seen. So, we have an appointment on Monday. I sincerely hope this is altitude adjustment and the increased water intake is a reaction to the dryer climate. I’ll keep ya posted.
But otherwise she is the same old Minnie….pacing, and pacing, and pacing, and PACING!!! …and sleeping.
