Workin on My Fitness and Got a Job to Support It

Let’s face it…I am doing a lot of eating and drinking out here.  Unfortunately, I still haven’t found my way as far as what my workout regime will be.  I have tried some CrossFit Gyms, but nothing has stuck.  I go home in a week or so and plan to try a couple more when I get back. In the mean time, I have been trying out other fitness options.

I interval run on the treadmill in my building gym almost everyday.  Anywhere from 25 to 60 minutes depending on the day an how I am feeling.  I am still not up to running outside here.  I also do planks and quick ab and leg workouts in the apartment:  lunges, sit ups, leg raises, squats, etc.  So those are the “you need to hold yourself accountable things”.  though, I have been doing very well, I am not good at “you need to hold yourself accountable things”, which is why I loved CrossFit.  Plus, I am not meeting anyone.

I have started doing Yoga at Yoga Pod (http://lodo.yogapodcommunity.com/) in Lodo.  It’s walk-able from my apartment and I got a good feeling the first time I went in.  The staff was very welcoming.  Your first class is free and they were offering a great deal to join but I wasn’t sure I was ready to commit to a Yoga gym since I knew I wanted something more intense…and two gym memberships just isn’t in the budget.

Well, a couple of days later a woman I met through Bumble BFF posted some schedules available on Facebook for Yoga Pod’s Karma Yogi program.  This is a program where you can pick up a 3.5 hour cleaning or front desk shift once a week and get free unlimited yoga at any Yoga Pod…including discounts on apparel and mat and towel rentals.  SIGN ME UP!  I also thought it would be a great way to meet people.  So, on Wednesday from 3 to 6:30 pm I am washing towels and swiffering floors in exchange for free yoga.  Namaste!

I recently did a free week trial at Fit36 in Lodo (http://fit36fitness.com/lodo).  It’s high intensity interval training (circuit training) designed to fit into just 36 minutes.  There are two rooms, a push room and a pull room.  One focuses mainly on your backside and the other on your front.  You choose which you want to do each time you come in.  There are 12 stations in each room, so only 12 people per class.  So far this hasn’t been a problem. You spend 1 minute at each station and get 30 seconds to switch between stations.  You do the circuit twice.  This equals 36 minutes, hence Fit36…how clever.  They were running a special that if you joined the gym on the first day of your free week trial, you received half off your monthly membership.  There are two options, $149 unlimited monthly or $99 for 8 classes a month.  And of course I thought…GREAT DEAL and signed up for the 8 classes for $49.50 per month.  then I came back for the second class of my free week trial.

This is when I realized that these circuits remain the same for two weeks.  Nope, don’t like it.  I don’t want to do the same work out over and over for two weeks, that’s boring.  And now I am a member.  Good thing they only need five days notice to cancel your membership.  Done.  On to the next thing…which I believe will either be CrossFit 720 (http://crossfit720.com/) or  Fierce 45 (http://www.fierce45.com/).  One guess how long their workouts take.

I also want to try an Orange Theory class and Surfset Fitness class.  I’ll keep you all posted on where I land.
